CASTING IDEAS

Deadly Relations

Being excited after completing my first screenplay, I went crazy casting it. Actually I double, triple, and even quadruple dipped- casting the same actor in several parts that is. I also cast several people as the same character. They appear in order of preference (more or less), left to right. First, the only two characters you've met thus far:

XAVIER- He is intelligent and dabbles in a little of everything. He is a dreamer. He really feels he loves LESLIE CHAPEL. He also has an attraction for NICHOLE SPINELLI and CRYSTAL CLEAR but nowhere near the extent of affection he feels for the taken Leslie. His roommate (for the past 4 years) and close friend is DREW HALLIWELL. He is also friends with MARIE CLEAR, and they all somewhat reluntantly hang around with DELILAH STONE. .

CASEY- Casting it over 2 years ago, I think Alyson Hannigan might look a little old to be playing a high school senior. The idea of Britney came to mind because this was back when she was expressing an interest to be in a movie but hadn't yet found one and didn't have the time. Since the character of Casey only appears in this one short opening scene, I thought it would be a good start for her acting career. Also picture, while listening to her walkman, that Hit Me Baby One More Time is playing. Talk about a sick sense of humor :-).

LESLIE- Embodiement of perfection, in Xavier's eyes anyway. She is smart, friendly, and has known Xavier for the past 4 years. However, during 3 and a half years of that duration she has been MARK BARRY's girlfriend.

MARK- Typical jock type, baseball all star. He is weasly & arrogant (reason people don't like him). He is going out with LESLIE CHAPEL and it is later revealed that he is also seeing NICHOLE SPINELLI.

JOHN- Temper when it comes to his girlfriend's (NICHOLE SPINELLI) wandering eye.
DR_John.jpg
Don Jeffcoat

NICHOLE- Nichole is your typical flirty, scanky bad girl- simply put, slut. She is constantly swapping spit in public with her boyfriend (JOHN WHEELER). She also makes comments about other good looking guys in front of her him. Her roomate is ADRIENNE REAMS. She is the only female character that may wear make-up. I think Eliza would be great in this role. I don't know if I still think Jodie would be. I thought of Biel because this was back when she wanted to shed her 7th Heaven good girl image. Also thought it would be fun for Britney to play such a character. Don't think she'd do nudity but, hey, isn't that what body doubles are for? hehehe

ADRIENNE- She has a crush on her roommate's (NICHOLE SPINELLI) boyfriend (JOHN WHEELER). You can tell in her words and her eyes. She believes Nichole treats him poorly.

DELILAH- She is a bitch on wheels with a deadly attitude, an "If looks could kill" type. She has a thing for Xavier. I thought it would be great for Kirsten to play a bitch. Something she hadn't done before but something that would be awesome to watch. However, since my original idea, I believe she has been cast as such.

DREW- He is into sci-fi but, for once, is NOT the nerdy type. He is smart, sharp, and has a quick retort. He has been XAVIER HALE's roommate for the past 4 years and MARIE CLEAR's boyfriend.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt

MARIE- She is a writer and editor of the school newspaper. She is also intelligent and possesses a quick retort. Her boyfriend is DREW HALLIWELL and her roommate, whom is also her cousin on her father's side, is CRYSTAL CLEAR. She is not all that close with her cousin. Alright, I think I just went overboard with Britney here. I know longer think she would be any good in this part.

CRYSTAL- The only freshman in a cast of seniors. She is reserved and, although she is smart, can be flighty and a bit of a scatter brain at times. Her parents asked her cousin MARIE CLEAR to watch over her and be her roommate as a favor. She is not close with Marie.

DOUGLAS EDWARDS- Psychology Professor. Best described as weird. He is in his late 30's. He smells bad, spits and drools, has messed up hair, and (may or may not) wear thick black glasses. He is the pinaccle of jokes, which are made right in front of him (students show no disclosure). He had a nervous breakdown a few years back (at the end of Xavier's Freshman year) when his fiancee dumped him at the altar. He spent the following year (Xavier's Sophomore year) in an asylum, and the next (Xavier's Junior year) on vacation to recuperate. Despite all this he just returned this year as head of the department. He feels Xavier is the son he never had because he is the only one who is nice to him. Xavier's friends are also kind but not as much.

I still think Robin Williams is the ideal person for this part. John has the look already down, just exchange for a thick pair of black glasses and trim the facial hair. Harry's got the facial expression.

WALTER MADISON- Business Marketing & Communications Professor. He is also in his late 30's, early 40's. He too takes a liking to Xavier. He is in the process of getting a divorce from his wife Eve. He is very depressed. Half heartedly jokes about how he couldn't sell himself to his wife. He is friends with DOUGLAS EDWARDS.

Not revealed in the movie, he met Edwards in the asylum 2 years ago over the university's summer break after voluntarily checking in for a month. That is when the relationship between him and his wife had began to go sour.

My hands down, number one choice remains Terry O'Quinn. I have special plans for him and this small part :-).

LARGE MARGE- Overweight. She is short with short black hair, brown eyes, and a semi-cute face but a somewhat larger body. On the table in front of her sits a tray full of food- two hamburgers, large fries, giant soda, snack bags, etc. Throughout the diner scene, she is filling her face non-stop. "You know, for four years she's complained of being dumb, fat, ugly." "She is dumb!!! Too dumb to realize that the only reason she's ugly is because she's fat and the only reason she's fat is cause she's constantly filling her face!!!"

Roommates

After writing Roommates, I quickly came to the realization that Freddie Prinze, Jr. would be the perfect person to play the lead role of Sidney. He more or less is known for his charm and sensitivity, both on and off screen. This works for this particular character in two ways. One, I want him to come across as such. And two, the audience will never expect what is coming.

Shortly thereafter, it dawned on me that Jessica Alba would be great as Amy (Sidney's girlfriend whom you've yet to meet).

I did toy with casting ideas for the rest of the characters, settling on a few but I never wrote down which actor for which part. It's not that important. These are the two that matter :-).

(Oh, and I thought it would be funny if Isaac Hayes played the small part of Train Conductor).

L'asperches U.

Surprisingly, I didn't really even think about casting after this one was written at all. Perhaps I realized it was a futile undertaking. Hahaha.

However, there was one character that immediately had a face once the story was complete. Allison Mack has the look I was going for with Briana Eve's character.

And, as I was thinking about actors for Mental, it crossed my mind that Seth Green would be a good choice to play the eccentric and highly animated Caspar.

Mental

I went all out, casting this one. For a couple of the parts, I cast more than 1 actor. They appear in order of preference (more or less), left to right. First the characters you've already met:

RACHEL- I think if you took away the make-up and dressed them down, these actresses would be able to pull off Rachel. (Though I'm unsure of Kristin. May be too dainty).

JAY- Okay he's only 6'3", not 6'5" like the script calls for, and he isn't as built as I imagined the character but I think he would add an interesting dynamic to the group. I'm sure he can play it serious, while balancing out the fun and games in their deep friendship.
M_Jay.jpg
Matthew Lillard
RACHEL'S MOM- Appearance wise, I think she could physically pass as the mother of the actresses I'd like to play Rachel and Karyn.
M_Mom.jpg
Marissa Tomei

KARYN- You've kind of met her, on Instant Messanger and the phone anyway. Later in the script, you'll meet her in person. I think Lacey meets the "very pretty" requirement.
M_Karyn.jpg
Lacey Chabert
FEMALE CULTIST- Now on to the characters not in the first 10 pages. I don't know, can't think of a better person to play this character than Fairuza. Isn't she a horror staple? hehehe
M_FemaleCultist.jpg
Fairuza Bulk

IAN- "He seems down to earth at first glance, but yet there is a suave air about him." Both these actors can come across as such, in two totally different ways.

RACHEL'S DAD- For some reason, I think Christopher Cousins would be really right for this part. Cliff de Young wouldn't be a bad choice either.
